Mayking a Difference

Channelling the power of art and music to inspire change and spread the message of “we are one” – this is the goal of One Fire Movement, an arts-based, not-for-profit organization committed to promoting unity and achieving global peace.

Founded by Tony Roost in 2009, One Fire Movement began as a small group of musicians intent on making a difference in their community. They started with a humble Christmas toy drive, delivering much-needed toys to shelters across Toronto. Since then, One Fire Movement has been instrumental in delivering much more; they perform uplifting musical concerts, offer artistic outlets in the form of workshops, and organize fundraising initiatives in support of local shelters and charitable organizations, such as Amnesty International, War Child Canada, Covenant House, Red Door Shelter and Nellie’s Shelter, among others.

A popular initiative that has become a mainstay is Pedestrian Sunday – an ongoing summer concert series in Kensington Market celebrating local merchants, artists, and regularly featuring social awareness themes centred around peace and human rights. It was here where One Fire Movement filmed the music video for their song, “>One Day – A Song for Peace, in support of Amnesty International’s “One Day Starts Now” positive change campaign.

One Fire Movement has since grown into an established entity in Toronto spreading compassion, peace and the message of “we are one.”

Mayking Connections

Once knowledge of One Fire Movement’s work reached our ears, here at Mayk, we immediately wanted to contribute to their cause. “This is exactly the type of organization we want to work with – a homegrown, grassroots organization that champions peace, unity, and harmony. They’re out there making the world a better place,” said Mayk’s Director, Growth, Abigail Gamble.

As a full-service marketing agency, one of the most effective ways we support One Fire Movement is by offering our experience and resources to help them reach and expand their audience. Inspired by their call of “we are one”, we came together as a team and helped design branded One Fire Movement collateral, including posters for their annual Holiday Magic fundraiser, highlighting their toy drive which benefits War Child Canada.

Beyond material contribution, Abigail, and managing partner, May Katorji, met with Tony to offer strategic advice on how One Fire Movement can build their brand and amplify their message. “Abigail and May have been amazing. They’ve taken the time to sit with me, learn about the organization – our challenges and objectives, and have helped us plan for a promising future,” said Roost. “Mayk has offered so much to us. From contributing to our toy drives, to investing their time and services into our cause, they have been an invaluable resource to One Fire Movement.”
